Darla

Fortunately for Darla, she was rescued by our partners, Home for Good Dogs after being in a kill shelter in Augusta, Ga. Darla had been dropped off there by an owner who could not afford to provide this 7-year-old Maltese with the care that she needed.

When she came to HFG she was matted from head to toe. She was suffering from a urinary tract infection and had several mammary tumors one of which had ruptured due to an unsuccessful procedure and lack of appropriate follow up. Further evaluation revealed mammary carcinoma.

Darla’s cancer proved to have not yet metastasized. She has since undergone surgery to remove all of the tumors. Currently, she is in a foster home and is being treated with antibiotics.

The Tess McIntyre Foundation is sponsoring Darla to cover the cost of her surgeries. Our contribution will also cover the antibiotics, vaccinations and some needed dental work. Despite all of her medical issues, our friends at HFG report Darla has been sweet, forgiving and eager for affection.
